Decorative brick for interior decoration +75 photos in the interior

The use of silicate brick in construction is unlikely to surprise anyone. However, recently, a new finishing material - decorative brick - has been widely used. Skillfully executed fragmentary masonry transforms the design of the home room, creating the atmosphere of a New York loft, country house, old Russian princely chambers or a medieval castle.

Types of decorative bricks

Decorative brick is a kind of symbiosis of artificial stone with tiles. There are different types of this finishing material: on the basis of cement, gypsum, clay, etc. The area of use of the finishing is very wide: from corridors, kitchens and living rooms to offices, from exhibition to storage facilities. The difference between a decorative brick and an artificial stone is that the latter has a raised surface. The brick shape is rectangular. Rounding of corners is allowed. Many manufacturing companies, taking into account the peculiarities of the styles where this material can be applied, produce artificially aged veneer. Consider its main types.

Clinker

This type of decorative brick is the most expensive. The clinker coating is made of clay. Thanks to the special firing technology, the material acquires special strength and hardness. Firing helps to get a diverse and completely unique color palette. The outer surface of the clinker brick is smooth. This type of finish is equally well suited for interior and exterior cladding. Due to the fact that clinker perfectly tolerates temperature drops, it is used for the decoration of corridors, the facade of buildings, the fireplace zone and chimneys. The size of the unit of brick brick cladding:

  • Width - 160-190 mm;
  • Height - 60 mm;
  • Thickness 20 ± 5 mm.

In addition to flat tiles, they also produce angular ones.

Gypsum and cement brick

The principle of manufacturing a finishing material is as follows. The prepared solution is poured into molds. After the mixture is completely set, it is released from the mold and dried. In essence, the technology is the same as in the manufacture of decorative stone, but the individual elements in size and shape resemble a brick. The finish on the basis of gypsum is not moisture resistant. It is used in dry rooms. The strength of cement-based products is much higher. They can be used for outdoor applications and in wet areas. The brick obtained by the method of manual molding, has a relief or simply rough surface.

Benefits and rules of choice

The main advantages of decorative bricks are:

  • Long working resource;
  • Ease of lining;
  • Reliability, durability;
  • A wide variety of shades and textures;
  • Environmental Safety;
  • Durability;
  • Good sound insulation characteristics;
  • Resistance to fire;
  • Chemical neutrality;
  • Possibility of application for various style options.

Decorative brick is a relatively new finishing material. It began to be widely used about 10 years ago. Working with him is so easy that the lining can be done with your own hands. Durability and strength bring it to the top positions among the finishing materials. And ecological safety allows to use it in any premises, including in the nursery. The color range is the most diverse: shades of white, brown and yellow. The texture is a realistic imitation of natural brick. This is a universal building material. It can be used for cladding walls made of brick, cement, foam concrete and drywall.

Basics of Choosing the Right

When choosing a finishing material, you need to pay attention to what kind of material is in the base:

  • Decorative artificial gypsum bricks absorb water, so it is not recommended for use in wet areas.
  • Ceramic brick is universal, therefore it is suitable for any room, including for finishing fireplaces and stoves.
  • Cement cladding is equally suitable for exterior and interior decoration.

Use in interior decoration

The decoration of the walls with decorative bricks is used not only for the exterior design of buildings, but also for the interior, both residential and public. Easy installation and external features allow you to use the material when finishing complex and non-standard surfaces. With the help of imitation brickwork allocate openings, arches, decorate architectural elements or make accents. The internal walls with imitation bricks, painted in discreet natural tones: black, beige, white, gray or cream look good.

Living room

The walls, decorated under the brickwork, look original and very beautiful. Especially harmoniously such decoration fits into the styles: modern, grunge or industrial (loft). Such an accent wall can serve as a magnificent background for placing a large TV, an unusual panel, pictures of futuristic content and designer furniture.

Dining room, kitchen

Here, in addition to the aesthetic appearance, such a property of the coating as strength and practicality is exploited. A kitchen apron made of decorative brick tolerates humidity and temperature drops, it is easy to clean. Over time, it does not lose its original appeal. It looks good brick in modern and classic styles.

Bedroom

Designers recommend using this material in the interior of the bedroom metered, in small quantities (for example, to highlight the openings of windows and doors, design the accent wall at the headboard or opposite it). It can be a brutal interior-loft or charming eclecticism, a game of contrasts. In this case, rough brick contrasts with elegant furniture and delicate textiles curtains and bedspreads.

Styles suitable for masonry

First of all, brick facing masonry is associated with the style of "loft". Currently, industrial style or imitation of bohemian housing moved to ordinary apartments. Imitation of masonry from aged brick can be used as an interior accent to highlight the area behind the bed or sofa, decorate niches, etc.

Another style that fully admits the use of bare bricks is country, which creates the atmosphere of a hunting hut, a cottage in the country, or a house familiar to everyone from the "house in the village" advertisement. Particularly interesting and functional is the brick-lined area of the stove or fireplace. The combination of "untreated" surface with natural wood and textile elements made of shreds and "grandmother's" textile has a peculiar charm.

The material has been used in interiors made in the styles of "Gothic" and "Neo-Gothic." They reproduce the atmosphere of feudal castles with numerous columns and pointed arches. For their design imitation brick fits perfectly. A chic chandelier with numerous crystal pendants or a giant four-poster bed creates a magnificent contrast with ascetic bricks.

By the way, about asceticism. Facing decorative brick perfectly harmonizes with the elements of minimalism. Especially beautiful is the combination of bricks of red, egg, brown or terracotta color with furniture of neutral colors.

How to choose a brick for interior decoration

The most important selection criterion is the aesthetic qualities of the material, its compliance with the chosen style. Create an exclusive, truly unique atmosphere can only be with the help of bricks, ideally corresponding to the design of the room. Be sure to ask about the consumer properties of the material, its technical characteristics. Do not be afraid to experiment with the design. The properties of decorative finishes are such that non-standard decoration is guaranteed.

Making bricks with your own hands

It is not at all necessary to use natural brick in the interior. If you want to veneer a room with an unusual material and a rough texture, you can use its imitation. Consider the various manufacturing options.

Of plaster

Gypsum is a plastic material that perfectly imitates the texture of natural brick. If to try, facing will turn out indistinguishable from natural. For its independent production will need the following materials:

  • Gypsum mix - dry;
  • Form for bricks;
  • Tile adhesive;
  • Water;
  • Notched trowel;
  • Moisturized foam sponge.

Dry gypsum mix, glue and water are mixed to obtain a mass that looks like sour cream. The prepared composition is poured into the form. Gypsum solidifies very quickly, so there is no need to make an excessive amount of solution.

For uniform distribution of the solution, the form is slightly shaken.

You can add an acrylic paint to the solution or paint the “masonry” after it is pasted on the wall. At will, the space between the "bricks" is stained with dark paint.

From cement

For the manufacture of decorative cement bricks with your own hands you need to prepare:

  • Portland cement white;
  • Sand;
  • Cardboard;
  • Balls from polyfoam (you can buy them in a furniture store);
  • Reinforcing mesh;
  • Sealant on cement.

Tray form for bricks can be made of cardboard. The bottom and its walls lay out reinforcing mesh. To prepare the solution mix sand, foam and water in a ratio of 1: 1: 2. Next, fall asleep Portland cement to obtain a solution with the consistency of sour cream. The working composition is kept for 20 minutes. Viscous mass is placed in the form manually, level and leave to freeze for a day. After hardening, they are coated with a solution for smoothness (into 3 parts of water with 1 part of portland cement and sand). For staining use diluted with water acrylic dye. Initially, the lining is tinted with a darker tone, then covered with a transparent layer of light paint.

From clay and granite chips

Clay - the main raw material for the manufacture of ceramics. To obtain good-quality brick imitation, clay is mixed with granite chips. Molded cladding elements are burned in special furnaces at high temperatures. At home, this is very difficult to achieve. This is the case when you should not try to do something on your own, and buy products from respectable manufacturing companies.

other methods

To decorate the walls "under the brick" can be in other ways. Some firms make the finish of MDF and polyvinyl chloride. The peculiarity of these materials is that they are mounted not by separate elements, but by large panels. Installation is made on the sheathing of wood or metal profiles. Such a finish will cost much cheaper than facing in the classic version.

Laying decorative bricks

This process can not be called too complicated. Special equipment for work is not required. To revet the walls, you need only the following tools and devices:

  • Construction tape, ruler, level;
  • Pencil - for marking;
  • Hand saw;
  • Brush;
  • Rope;
  • Brush;
  • Putty knife;
  • Sandpaper for stripping pieces of bricks.

Depending on the veneer, apply angular or planar elements. The use of "corners" creates the impression of solid, good, natural laying. The number of square meters of material that must be purchased, calculated on the basis of the planned area of lining.

Preliminary stage

You need to glue decorative bricks on a solid, well-cleaned base from the old coating. The wall and the brick on the back side are pretreated with deep penetrating primer. Before facing the wall, the bricks are removed from the package and laid out on a flat surface in order to carefully select the elements according to their color, texture and thickness. The next stage is the horizontal marking of the surface. This is necessary for the proper fit to the size of the joined elements. This will save materials and reduce the number of sawn elements. Begin facing with angular "bricks" provided, if they exist, alternating short sides with long ones. When installing without jointing, vertical joints shift at least 50 mm.

Installation procedure

Using a spatula, glue mortar is applied to the surface of the wall, trying to fill all irregularities with the compound. Glue is applied to the entire bottom surface of the cladding element with a layer thickness of 1-3 mm. The brick is pressed against the surface of the wall, slightly moving them from side to side. This is to ensure a better grip on the wall. The solution should be plastic, but not liquid. If the stone slides heavily, it will not be possible to firmly adhere to the surface.

Selection of individual elements by color is an individual creative process, and there is no clear standard here. It is advisable to use the "bricks" from different packages. If necessary, the stone is filed with a hacksaw with fine teeth. Fine fit works well with emery coarse paper.

Conclusion

Brick looks beautiful and unusual in the interior. However, the heavy “global” clutch will hardly look beautiful. Therefore, the use of decorative bricks in the decoration of rooms should be metered, "without fanaticism" to decorate the room, for the placement of color and textured accents.
