How to choose a computer chair: device, characteristics

The realities of modern life force us to spend a lot of time at the computer. In order to work was comfortable, you need to sit on a special chair. The device office chair is different from the device chair, designed to rest. It is designed in such a way as to avoid the negative health effects of prolonged sitting in the same posture.

When sitting on a regular chair, the neck quickly begins to numb, pains in the lower back and back appear, headaches begin, fatigue quickly sets in. All this can be avoided if you choose the right computer chair for work.

Experimentally, doctors have proven that a comfortable office chair improves productivity and significantly reduces complaints about well-being.

Device

We are all different - different height, weight, build, as well as different health conditions. Therefore, the most important characteristic of an office chair is its ability to adjust to each person individually. For this purpose, good office chairs have a number of adjustments that help “fit” them to your parameters and make the work as comfortable as possible.

Seat

First of all, pay attention to the form. Ideally, it should not have sharp corners. The material is also important, it must “breathe”, be easily permeable to steam and moisture so that it does not “mistreat” from prolonged sitting.

For seats there are several options for adjustments.

  • First of all, it is the ability to change its height in order to fit the chair in growth.
  • Another important adjustment is depth.
  • You must be able to push the seat forward or push it backwards, ensuring that it ends 10 cm from the knee bend.
  • Some chairs provide the ability to adjust the tilt of the seats, which can also be important with some features of the figure.
  • Additional functions are also possible, depending on the model. On the edge of both the seat and back, there is usually a slight thickening. This is a very functional addition, it helps to maintain normal blood circulation, promotes even distribution of the load on the back and keeps from slipping on the seat.

Gas lift

Modern device office chair is quite difficult. The height is adjusted using a gas lift cylinder of steel filled with an inert gas. This device allows you to accurately set the desired height, and in addition absorbs vertical loads.

When a gas lift breaks down, the seat can easily break, so it is imperative that it be reliable. For the assessment of quality, a system of categories is used, with the fourth being the most reliable. Your chosen chair must meet all technical standards and requirements to eliminate the possibility of injury.

Back and vertebral roller

One of the most important characteristics of an office chair is the ability to adjust the backrest. This is necessary in order to provide the spine with constant support, regardless of the position in which you are accustomed to work. Usually, the angle of the backrest relative to the seat is slightly more straight, but it must be selected individually.

Also, many models have the ability to adjust the depth of the back of an office chair, thanks to this feature, you can push or move the backrest away from the seat so that it continuously supports the spine.

In the lumbar region, the vertebral column forms a natural deflection. If you lean your back on a perfectly straight back, this deflection will straighten up, and the nerves emerging from the spine will pinch, which will lead to negative health consequences.

Therefore, in most modern models of office chairs use special rollers, similar to a small pad, placing them in the lower part of the backrest. This roller should be able to move up and down so that it can be set exactly opposite the waist.

Headrest

If you want to choose a computer chair, in which you will not have a numb neck, and a headache, pay attention to the headrest device. This useful device relieves tension from the neck and muscles of the shoulder girdle, but in order for it to do this effectively, it must have adjustments both in height and in angle of inclination.

Mechanisms

Some chairs are equipped with additional mechanisms, which at first glance may seem superfluous, but in fact greatly increase the comfort of a long sitting at a desk.

Swing

In addition to the mechanism of tilting the back, which allows at certain moments to tilt it back, to lean back and relax, in some models there is a swing mechanism. It helps to stretch your back a little, relieve tension from it.

Swing is possible due to the displacement of the axis of the back forwards relative to the center of the chair, thus it is possible to sway slightly, without lifting the legs from the floor and not lifting the knees.

The mechanism is designed for the weight of a person sitting from 50 kg, but not more than 120. In some of the latest models, a synchronization mechanism is additionally installed, allowing you to change the position of both the backrest and the seat depending on the posture and taking into account the weight of the person sitting. If you deflect the back, the seat itself goes a little forward.

Cross

In a complex office chair device, the most crucial part is the cross. It is her greatest burden. Therefore, the material from which it is made must be of high quality and durable. Be sure to pay attention to this when purchasing.

Wheels

This structural element also accounts for significant loads, so the wheels must be strong. But there is one more requirement: the material from which they are made should not leave marks on the floor, and at the same time should slide well so as not to hinder movement.

Ideal for the manufacture of nylon wheels, polyurethane and polypropylene. The international certificate of GS is received by the rollers having system of self-braking. In some models, install stops that prevent spontaneous rolling.

Armrests

Another important characteristic of an office chair is the presence of armrests. They take over the weight of the arms, allow them to lean slightly on their elbows, which relieves the cervical region and the entire spine.

It should be understood that only those armrests that are suitable for you in height can cope with this task, and for this they must have height and distance adjustments. For support to be effective, arms lowered onto the armrests should be approximately at the level of the working surface of the table.

Customization

Choosing the right computer chair is half the battle. The second, equally important half is to set it up. Before buying, carefully read not only the certificates for the product, but also the possibilities of a particular selected model, its adjustment. Be sure to sit in it, and try to make adjustment for themselves.

Set the following settings:

  • The angle of the seat and back should be a little more than 90 degrees.
  • The height should be such that the arms bent at the elbows rest on the table at a right angle, with the legs firmly on the floor, the angle between the lower leg and the hip is 90 degrees.
  • The back of the knees should not touch the edge of the seat; if this happens, adjust the depth of the seat.
  • Set the lumbar cushion to the desired height so that the spine is S-shaped.
  • Adjust the swing mechanism to suit your weight.

All these settings will help you maintain health and performance.
